Having been through the FtP process herself Cathryn is passionate about giving others better support than she had. She is not afraid to challenge when registrants are receiving poor treatment by the NMC but will do so professionally and neutrally so as to effect change that will improve the process for everyone. She has self litigated successfully at appeal, and has helped a number of other nurses and midwives do the same. For her it is about fairness plain and simple.

Calm in a crisis - realistic advice
Simon has a unique skill set having worked as a police officer, a nurse and a lawyer. He has been with NMCWatch from the beginning, supporting Cathryn with her vision and helping mould the group to where it is today. He is calm in a crisis but also honest about potential outcomes, he will not tell you what you want to hear but what you need to hear. Simon recently completed his Mental Health First Aid qualification with MIND

Paul has a wealth of knowledge not only in midwifery in the UK but also globally, working in many different countries.
This has given him great insight into how the different regulators work around the globe. .
He is committed to challenging poor practice and advocating for registrants unable to challenge the process themselves.
He is a well respected lecturer demonstrating the art of mediation and how many areas of conflict often arise from misunderstanding of the other's thoughts and considerations. He is passionate about Human Rights and is exploring how this is handled within the civil regulatory process.
Elsie Gayle - Chair CIC
Passionate about midwifery, equality and regulatory fairness.
Elsie Gayle RN RM is in private practice. Having founded 'Midwifery Conversations' a community of practice for midwives she held the first UK conference on Reproductive Justice for UK mothers and babies of African descent. She was awarded Honorary Fellowship of University of Wolverhampton for her work in maternity and mental health in the Black community. A long time interest in how regulation affects patient safety, she was a member of the NMC Patient Forum which concluded; she now sits on the regulators Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Forum. She was a member of the NHS Pilot Scheme developed to return genuine NHS Whistleblowers back into NHS employment.
Peter Bates - Treasurer CIC
Keeping us on track
Peter is a retired social researcher
with a background in geography and economics. He has been a member of the Institute of Information Scientists,
Market Research Society and
Royal Statistical Society.
He worked on research and policy issues in higher education and in local government, and finally for a charity which advised voluntary groups that support disabled people.
Peter has a wider interest in health as chair of a Patient Participation Group, and as lay member of a Faculty of the RCGP.
He became interested in NMCWatch after his daughter went through a drawn-out process which ended with the panel concluding that there were no concerns about her Fitness to Practice as a nurse
